Every festive season, the same question comes up in the family WhatsApp group: “Should we buy now or wait for something new?” This year the answer is a little easier, because several important cars arrived in the last few weeks.
This guide covers the newest cars launched in India, in plain language. It skips the jargon and tells you who each car actually suits. All prices are ex-showroom and were introductory at launch, so confirm the final on-road price with your dealer.
Kia Sorento: A Premium Family SUV With a Hybrid Option
The Sorento is Kia’s new flagship petrol-diesel SUV. It launched at an introductory Rs 27.99 lakh, and the range goes up to Rs 40.39 lakh. Diesel versions run from Rs 27.99 lakh to Rs 38.89 lakh, while the 1.6-litre strong hybrid starts at Rs 29.49 lakh.
RushLane
It is also a first for the brand. The Sorento is Kia’s first strong-hybrid in India, and it brings all-wheel drive to Kia’s petrol-diesel range. A strong hybrid charges itself while you drive, so you never plug it in.
Autopunditz
You can choose 6-seat or 7-seat layouts. Even the base HTE gets a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 10-way powered driver’s seat and dual-tone leatherette upholstery. Kia sees the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq as its rivals.
Best for: families who want a spacious, feature-loaded 3-row SUV and don’t want a full luxury badge.
Think twice if: you mostly drive short city hops. A smaller SUV will be easier to park and cheaper to run.
MG Hector Tomahawk: An Electric Family SUV Under Rs 20 Lakh
Electric cars are getting more practical, and this launch shows it. The Hector Tomahawk EV was launched at Rs 19.49 lakh. It has a 69.2kWh battery and a claimed MIDC range of up to 517km, and it comes in 5- and 7-seat layouts.
Charging and cost
DC fast charging goes up to 90kW and takes the battery from 30 to 80 percent in about 35 minutes. A full charge on a 7.4kW home charger takes around 12.5 hours. MG also offers Battery-as-a-Service. You pay less upfront, from Rs 13.99 lakh, and then Rs 4.90 for every kilometre you drive.
Features: Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof are on the list. MG says it is India’s first electric car with vehicle-to-home charging support. In practice, that means the battery can help run your home appliances during a power cut. That is a real benefit in many Indian cities.
Prefer a plug-in hybrid? MG also launched a PHEV at Rs 25.69 lakh. It claims over 1,100 km of combined range, and deliveries begin in November 2026.
Best for: buyers with home or workplace charging who want a big, feature-rich SUV.
Think twice if: you have no reliable place to charge. The PHEV may suit you better.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift: Big Features on a Small Budget
Not everyone is shopping for Rs 20 lakh or more, and the Baleno is the launch for that crowd. Maruti launched the facelift at a starting price of Rs 6.10 lakh, with a new petrol engine as the main change. Sources quote the entry price slightly differently, between Rs 5.99 and 6.10 lakh, so check with your Nexa dealer.
An early CarWale review notes that the new engine is a bit coarse at peak revs and feels a little strained on steep slopes. That is worth knowing before you buy.
Best for: first-time buyers, city commuters and anyone chasing low running costs.
Think twice if: you want a diesel or a very quiet cabin. The Altroz and i20 are worth a test drive too.
What Else Is Coming Next?
Other launches on the calendar include the updated BMW 7 Series and i7, which was scheduled for 11 September, and the Skoda Superb, which portals expect around this time. Launch dates shift often, so check the official brand websites before you plan a purchase around any of them.
