If you own a Galaxy S26 and keep checking Settings for an update, you’re in good company. Samsung’s Android 17-based One UI 9.0 has been in testing since May, but the stable release is arriving in a stop-start way. Here is what’s confirmed as of 28 September 2026, what’s new, and what to do before you tap Download.
Where the One UI 9.0 rollout stands today
Samsung released stable One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S26 series in South Korea on 16 September. It then reached S26 units on T-Mobile in the US. Unlocked US S26 models that were in the beta program have now started receiving it too.

Elsewhere it’s patchier. Samsung reportedly moved one regional target from 21 to 28 September, then dropped the exact date. Community posts point to 30 September for Thailand and 3 October for Indonesia. Samsung India has announced the stable build, yet many owners are still waiting. How we got here
The beta opened on 12 May for the S26 series in the US, UK, Germany, Poland, South Korea and India. One UI 9 then shipped on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 when they launched on 22 July. It’s built on Android 17, which reached Pixel phones on 16 June.
What’s new in One UI 9.0
One UI 8.5 already delivered the big design changes, so this release leans toward AI and connectivity.
Some beta-only tweaks, like resizable Quick Panel sliders, may differ on your phone, so check after updating.
Which Galaxy phones will get One UI 9?
The S26 series comes first. Sammy Fans lists the S25 and S24 families among eligible devices. The beta has grown past 20 devices, including a few mid-range and budget models. The Galaxy A54 and A16 have recently joined the beta. I couldn’t find an official Samsung schedule covering every model, so watch the Samsung Members app for your device.

How to update without regrets
Back up first with Smart Switch or Samsung Cloud.
Charge above 50% and use Wi-Fi. The US build for the S26 is over 4.1GB.
Open Settings > Software update and tap Download and install.
If nothing shows up, wait. Rollouts are staged by country and carrier, and it’s not worth sideloading firmware from random sites.
Is it worth installing right away?
Honestly, if your phone runs fine, waiting a few days for early bug reports is reasonable, especially with this wobbly rollout. The build is based on the initial Android 17 release rather than QPR1, so Google’s latest tweaks aren’t included. The real gains are security and AI conveniences, not a new look.
